How to Fix “Cannot start session without errors” in MAMP for Mac or any PHPMyAdmin application

“Cannot start session without errors, please check errors given in your PHP and/or webserver log file and configure your PHP installation properly.”

phpFor anyone who wants to build a WordPress website in MAC OSX, MAMP is a good choice. You can build your site in your own computer before you upload it to your web host computers.

But sometimes, when you start up the MAMP and try to access your databases, you may get a message, saying
“Cannot start session without errors, please check errors given in your PHP and/or webserver log file and configure your PHP installation properly.” in red letters, leaving you unable to access your site.

Don’t panic whether you deleted the whole thing and destroyed your hard work. (I did!)

First try to access your site with another browser. If you can access your database with another browser, then problem lies in your browser’s cache.

Once you delete the caches, you can access your site as usual.

In Firefox

in the menu, click on the History and select Clear Recent History in the drop down menu.

CacheIn the window, change the Time range to clear to the time you are using MAMP, so you only delete the necessary ones. Then inside the white box, check Cache only and press the Clear Now Button.

It will clear the corrupted cache. If not, try deleting other options, like cookies.

In Chrome

Chrome1Click History in the Menu and select Show Full History. There is a grey button ‘Clear Browsing Data...’. When you click on it, you will get a window with choicChrome2es to check. Check Cached Images and Files and click the button at the bottom… Clear Browsing Data

Once done, start your MAMP again.
You should be back in business.
